How &
Why do I calculate the cubic dimensions of my shipment?
Although in most instance's your shipments are
rated on weight, the actual fact is, the rates are predicated on
how much space your shipment will occupy. The NMFC tariff accounts
for this by classifying road freight, but in most other instances
you will need to know the weight and the cube ( the space the shipment
occupies ) of your shipment.
Cube Calculation:
Multiply the L" X W" X H" = Cubic Inches
Divide the Cubic Inches by 1728 ( 1728 is the product of 12x12x12
) = Cubic Feet
Example: 1 pallet @ 40" x 48" x 48"H = 92160 Cubic
Inches
92160 divided by 1728 = 53.33 Cubic Feet
If your rates are based on 10 lbs per cubic foot, then multiply
53.33 x 10 = 533 lbs.
If your shipment weighs less than 533 lbs, it will be adjusted to
a chargeable weight of 533 lbs.
What documentation is required
to ship between U.S.A. and Canada?
The minimum documentation required is a completed Bill of Lading
and a completed commercial invoice. These two documents should match
exactly in regards to pieces, description of product, ship to, and
any other information that is duplicated on both. There may be other
documents required such as a NAFTA Certificate of Origin and some
commodities require special permits.
